Thiago Silva snubbed a last-ditch offer to remain at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and pressed ahead with his move to Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, according to the Brazilian’s representative Paulo Tonietto.

The 35-year-old star completed his move to Chelsea last week after spending eight years in the French capital.

During his time at PSG, the centre-back won six Ligue 1 titles and finished his time at the club with a defeat to Hansi Flick’s Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League final.

Thiago Silva has penned a one-year contract with Chelsea, with the option for the second campaign, but his representative has revealed that the Parisians’ sporting director, Leonardo, made a late plea for him to remain in France.

Tonietto also revealed that the club’s head coach, Thomas Tuchel, was interested in keeping Thiago Silva in his squad.

‘He [Thiago Silva] was no longer hoping [for a new contract] because Leonardo told him two months ago that he did not want to extend,’ Paulo told L’Equipe.

‘But last Tuesday, Leonardo called Thiago and spoke about the possibility of staying for another year.

‘Thiago had already found an agreement with Chelsea, he couldn’t go back on it.

‘A sporting director tells a player that he no longer wants him, but then two months later he wants to extend his contract, how should you take that?

‘Tuchel always wanted to keep Thiago. Leonardo was the one who didn’t want him.’

In other news, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has allegedly given the green light for the management to sell N’Golo Kante this summer transfer market in order to raise funds for the England international Declan Rice.
