5 Most Iconic Cars in The World
If you look back at automotive history there are several standout vehicles that have helped shape the industry and the world we live in today. Here is a list of some of the most influential cars ever made.
Mini Cooper
A Cult Icon
If you haven’t owned one, you’ll have certainly been inside one – the Mini Cooper is a British icon and revolutionised the whole concept of affordable transportation. It was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and was developed in response to the oil crisis during WWII, where fuel was in scant supply and cheap, affordable transportation was needed. The Mini was eventually born and went on to create a cult following that still exists today.
VW Golf GTI
The Hottest Hot Hatch
The Volkswagen Golf has won many awards throughout its history. The Golf won the World Car of the Year in 2009, with the Volkswagen Golf Mk6 and in 2013 with the Volkswagen Golf Mk7. The VW Golf is one of only three cars, the others being the Renault Clio and the Vauxhall Astra, to have been voted European Car of the Year twice, in 1992 and 2013. The Volkswagen Golf has made the annual Car and Driver 10Best list multiple times. The Golf Mk7 won the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in 2015, and the Mk1 GTI also won the award in 1985.
Audi Quattro
Four Wheels Are Better Than Two
The Audi Quattro is a road and rally car, produced by the German automobile manufacturer Audi, part of the Volkswagen Group. It was first shown at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show on 3 March. The Audi Quattro shared many parts and platform with the coupé version of the Audi 80 (B2). The Quattro was internally designated Typ 85, a production code it shared with the quattro versions of the Audi Coupé. Its characteristic flared wheelarches were styled by Martin Smith. The Audi Quattro also had independent front and rear suspension.
Toyota Prius
The Original Hybrid
The Toyota Prius is a full hybrid electric automobile developed and manufactured by Toyota since 1997. Initially offered as a 4-door sedan, it has been produced only as a 5-door fastback hatchback since 2003.
Tesla Model S
Driving The Electric Revolution
The Tesla Model S is an all-electric five-door liftback sedan produced by Tesla, Inc., and was introduced on June 22, 2012. As of August 2020, the Model S Long Range Plus has an EPA range of 402 miles (647 km), higher than that of any other battery electric car.
Model S cars built from October 2014 have a feature called Autopilot, an advanced driver assistance system that allows the car to operate without assistance from the driver. However, the driver must supervise continuously and take control if there is an issue. Autopilot 2.0, introduced in October 2016, also includes “Enhanced Summon”, which allows the car to navigate through a parking lot to its owner without anyone in the driver’s seat. Sentry mode, available on cars built after August 2017, senses and records suspicious activity around the car.
